Chrome Introduces ‘Circle to Search’ on Desktop – A Smarter Way to Search

Google Lens is set to receive a significant upgrade in desktop Chrome that integrates a new search method. It blends seamlessly with the browsing experience. Users will soon notice a Google Lens icon within the Chrome search box, enabling them to initiate searches directly. 

This feature allows for the selection of on-screen items for a “multisearch,” which combines text and image queries. This integration is designed to enhance the efficiency of searches without the need to open new tabs or navigate away from the current page.

Previously, Google Lens could be activated in desktop Chrome through a right-click or via the three dots menu, displaying results in a sidebar. However, the upcoming update introduces a notable enhancement with the addition of the Google Lens icon directly in the search bar. This modification facilitates a more streamlined and accessible approach to initiating multi searches directly from the sidebar.

The new functionality aims to provide a more practical and integrated search experience. By allowing users to perform comprehensive searches within their current tab, Google enhances the usability of Chrome, especially for those looking to obtain information quickly without interrupting their workflow.

The rollout of this new feature is expected globally within the next few days, as announced by Chrome Vice President Parisa Tabriz in a recent blog post. While the search results will feature Google’s AI Overviews, this particular component will be available exclusively to users in the United States, as confirmed by Google spokesperson Joshua Cruz.

Google is enhancing Chrome with a new AI feature. That will be designed to make it easier for users to revisit their past searches. This innovative tool will allow users to query their search history by asking specific questions, like “what was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?” to quickly locate previously viewed links related to their query. Scheduled to be available in the US on desktop Chrome in the coming weeks, this feature is opt-in and utilizes a cloud-based model to deliver accurate results.
