GoDaddy Flop Triggers Global Zoom Outage

Zoom users faced big trouble on Wednesday, April 17th, 2025. Thousands couldn’t use the popular video conferencing app for nearly two hours. Everyone quickly blamed Zoom, thinking the company was facing technical issues. But surprisingly, Zoom wasn’t responsible for the outage.

GoDaddy Messed Up Big Time

Turns out, GoDaddy caused the problem. A mistake from GoDaddy Registry blocked Zoom’s domain (zoom.us). GoDaddy wrongly shut it down after miscommunication with Zoom’s domain manager, Markmonitor. Zoom clearly explained that there was no cyber attack or internal failure; the fault lay entirely with GoDaddy.

GoDaddy Under Fire Again

This isn’t the first time GoDaddy faced severe criticism. Earlier this year, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) criticized GoDaddy for weak cybersecurity practices. These poor practices allowed hackers to access customers’ websites and data multiple times between 2019 and 2022. The FTC said GoDaddy lacked basic protections like multifactor authentication and proper security checks.

Users Frustrated by Disruptions

Around 70,000 users, mostly in the US, faced disruptions and voiced their frustrations online. Complaints flooded platforms like X and DownDetector as users struggled through their disrupted workday. Thankfully, Zoom has restored all services, and users are back to normal, but many remain concerned about GoDaddy’s reliability.
